so over christmas break i think that i reverted to my childhood. i remember it like it was yesterday, sitting in my first grade classroom engulfed in a book that my favorite teacher was reading to my whole class. i remember thinking: how can she pronounce those weird words? how can she even read so well? will i ever be able to read that well? is the BFG real?
well... i reread the BFG over christmas break... sitting out by the pool and on the beach, i took a step back in time to see if i got anything more out of that reading than just a cute story about a little girl and a friendly giant. i realized that i now saw things in that book that i never picked up on before. i saw lessons of treating people with kindness and how to have an open mind to new experiences. it seems as though, at a young age, kids have so much more bravery than we do as adults or young adults. Sophie, the little girl in the book, was scared at first but she learned to trust the giant and appreciate him for who he was... i am not sure i would be able to do that today.
now, i know that i am looking at this from a ridiculous point, but think about your experiences as a child compared to today. they will probably be a little more reserved.
